La Sonora Dinamita stands as a seminal Colombian cumbia ensemble, widely recognized for its pioneering role in bringing the genre to international acclaim. The group is credited with significantly contributing to the popularization of cumbia across Latin America.
The original orchestra was established in 1960 in Cartagena de Indias, led by bandleader Lucho Argaín. Although the ensemble disbanded in 1963, it was revived in 1975 under the artistic direction of Julio Ernesto Estrada "Fruko" Rincón, who was then the artistic director for the Discos Fuentes record label.
