History
Jovanotti
Jovanotti, the stage name of Lorenzo Cherubini (born September 26, 1966), is an Italian singer-songwriter and rapper. Initially releasing music under the Jovanotti moniker, he transitioned to using his real name, Lorenzo, around the mid-1990s.
Musical Style and Influences
Jovanotti's music is predominantly influenced by hip-hop, though it often transcends strict genre categorization. A significant portion of his work draws from the tradition of Italian cantautori (singer-songwriters), while his earlier material also incorporates elements of 1980s keyboard-driven pop.
While most of his discography is in Italian, he has also released a Spanish-language greatest hits album. His live performances have featured covers, including a rendition of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." Jovanotti has also been featured on international compilations, notably Red Hot + Rhapsody, a 1998 tribute to George Gershwin, where he performed "I Got Rhythm." In 1996, he participated in one of Luciano Pavarotti's charity concerts.
Notable Works and Collaborations
His album Buon Sangue showcases a blend of rock and old-school hip-hop influences, recognized as one of his more innovative projects. This album featured collaborations with Edoardo Bennato on one track and bassist Saturnino, who co-wrote two songs.
More recently, the CD Ora marked a departure with its novel production style.
