Christopher Charles Lloyd, known professionally as Lloyd Banks, emerged as a prominent voice in hip-hop as a founding member of the influential G-Unit collective. Born on April 30, 1982, in New Carrollton, Maryland, he was primarily raised in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York. Banks's early life was shaped by his mother, Rosa Lloyd, of Puerto Rican descent, and his Haitian-American father, who was largely absent due to incarceration. This environment fostered a resilient spirit, leading Banks to drop out of August Martin High School at age 16.

He adopted the surname Banks from his great-great-grandfather, a name also shared by his uncles, solidifying a familial connection to his chosen moniker. Banks's musical journey began on the vibrant New York mixtape circuit, where his lyrical prowess and distinctive flow quickly garnered attention.
