History The Sami Sisters

The Sami Sisters is a New Zealand trio comprising sisters Madeleine Sami, Anji Sami, and Priya Sami.

Three singing, guitar-playing songstresses of Irish and Indian descent born and bred in Auckland. Growing up in a noisy household, raised by their mother, the girls were attracted to an eclectic variety of music. They learned to sing watching the Sound of Music, Grease and West Side Story over and over again. They sang in musicals, in jazz bands and all began song-writing individually in their teens. Influences range from country artists of yesteryear like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline to 50s girls bands and classic Motown to 80's greats like Kate bush and The Smiths.

Madeleine Sami is the eldest and an award-winning actress; Anji Sami, the middle sister, is a singer-songwriter (she released her ‘El Dorado’ ep in 2006); the youngest sibling, Priya Sami, released ‘Mrs Julian Casablancas”.

In May 2007 the trio played their first ever shows in Sydney and Melbourne. They subsequently played support for Rufus Wainwright, Don Mc Glashan and Kasey Chambers.
