History Bushplant

On the go since 1990, Bushplant have long been County Clare's best-kept secret. Perhaps the last of the great Irish folk-rock bands, they are hitting the road now to show the rest of the world what it's been missing.

The first free track here "Make Somebody Happy Here", is a pounding beast of a thing, a bastard offspring such as might occur after an illicit encounter between Alabama3 and S-Express at a Clare Fleadh, a mutant fostered by Hawkwind and all the while delicately embroidered with the silvery fiddling of Mary Custy, a star in her own right with 3 solo albums of her own.

Due to much magnificent munificence on the part of Chris Hehir of Chilli Studios in Dublin, owned by Brian MacFadden late of Westlife, the band have now released their third album, which comprises a rattling great rollercoaster ride from pure folk fiddling to techno, drum'n'bass and swooshing great chunks of pyschedelia. This is folk music like you've never known, New Clare Power!

The official website www.bushplant.com has a load of free music downloads, a video interview with Mary, some live videos of the band onstage in Ennis and Galway, newspapers interviews, gigs, CDs to buy, an absolute clatter of pictures of the band including more pictures of Mary than is healthy, but dammit, why not?

The new album has been named 'Janus' to acknowledge the dual nature of their sound, gaining inspiration by looking backwards to their Irish traditional roots while looking forward to its continual evolution in a rock context.
