The Allotria Jazz Band is one of the most prominent European jazz bands in the field of classic jazz. Since its inception in 1969, the Munich based Orchestra published 16 LP´s and CD´s, was awarded a golden record in 1989, has performed TV-appearances and broadcast productions as well as participated in international jazz festivals, performed in 12 European countries and conducted more than 30 concert tours through Canada and the United States, all of which have added to the bands high reputation. Performances with alumni of Armstrong, Ellington, Goodman and Condon orchestras as Peanuts Hucko, Harold Ashby, Scott Hamilton, Warren Vaché jr., Wild Bill Davison, Billy Butterfield, Trummy Young, Ralph Sutton are further highlights of the band´s history.
The repertoire of the band comprises of compositions of the first 4 decades of the last century including many varied traditional jazz styles as Ragtime, New Orleans, Blues, Boogie and especially Dixieland and Swing. The flexibility of the Allotria Jazz Band makes events as jazz festivals and concerts, as well as anniversaries and parties a success. With its irresistable swinging rhythm section and the tight 4 - peace frontline, including 2 trumpets, the band forms a characteristic and unique sound, reminiscent of the small big bands of the thirties.
The 8 band members are excellent musicians in their own right, most of them with separate carieers as soloists or leaders of their own bands. During the last couple of years the band has stayed together, with no change in the personnel. All instrumentalists of the Allotria Jazz Band are aiming at the same goal, which is to maintain the music of the early years of jazz, alive and swinging.
