Biography Alan White

The name White has been used several times.

WHITE (1) was formed in 2014. The Scottish five-piece share a passion for the musical adventures of fellow Scots Orange Juice and Franz Ferdinand, whilst also drawing on the frenetic playing of Gang Of Four and the unconventional pop of Roxy Music.

Frontman Leo Condie’s vocals are theatrical in the best way possible, never overshadowing the precise and lean musicianship on show. Jagged guitar is offset by soaring synth lines whilst Kirstin Lynn’s drumming drives the track forward.

Finding their sound with some low-key shows in Glasgow, WHITE then hit the road with Will Butler of Arcade Fire as well as supporting Future Islands when they toured the UK. The band recorded a brilliant session for BBC Introducing, and have been attracting rave reviews north and south of the border for their first set of sold-out headline shows as well as successful shows at The Great Escape and Dot to Dot Festival.

White (2) was formed in 2006 by former Hang on the Box drummer Shenggy with multi-instrumentalist Shou Wang of Carsick Cars. White is one of the most talked about bands to emerge from the Beijing underground in recent years. Their self-titled album was produced by Blixa Bargeld at Einstürzende Neubauten studios in Berlin.

Together, Shenggy (KORG MS-20, drums, percussion, sampler, vocals) and Shou Wang (guitar, organ, pedals, dome theremin, vocals) have conjured a sound - part electronic shimmer, part cosmic industrialism - that arrives like a nocturnal transmission, complete with advertisements and radio static, through a neon rain.

White (3) was formed by Alan White (drummer in Yes), with Geoff Downes (formerly of Yes and The Buggles) and former members of MerKaBa.

White (4) was a Swedish progressive/hard rock band formed in the 1960s, released one album in 1978 and split up in 1981.
